As rock great Ozzy Osbourne once said: “All aboard! Ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaa!”
The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History in downtown Kennesaw is holding its mysteriously named “Trains, Trains, Trains!” event.
In its eighth year, the event is a celebration of all things locomotive in addition to the apparent sentiment that there’s no need for a conjunction — “ and” — in its title.
It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for those age 60 and over, $5.50 for children ages 4 to 12, and free for those younger. (Tickets are valid for just one day of the event.)
If you buy pre-sale tickets online, that will enter you into a drawing for a “Peanuts”-themed Lionel train valued at $320, according to the Southern museum website. The drawing will be Jan. 30.
In addition to all the features the museum regularly has, there will also be 10 operating train sets, several of which children can play with.
“Model trains are a wonderful way to bring families together,” said executive director Richard Banz.
And, of course, they’re happy to feed fresh locomotive passion with a gift shop that will “double in size for the event” with new items.
As for parking, check out a map here or use the shuttle that’ll run continuously from start to finish both days; it picks up at Adams Park, 2600 Park Drive.
If you do ride the shuttle, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a Bigjigs Rail figure-eight 40-piece train set, which appears to be this.
The Nest Kennesaw will sell hot chocolate and coffee inside the museum to raise funds for MUST Ministries.
There will also be a full lineup of musicians, a list of which you can see here.
